PR Yorkshire

by Dan Horton SEO on June 11, 2009

in PR Yorkshire

Today, I thought I would focus on the PR companies based in Yorkshire and I have to say there are many out there. As an SEO based in Ripon, North Yorkshire I think its important to keep updated on the PR services that are available to me locally. My main levels of experience of PR in Yorkshire has been from companies that are pretty much a one-man band. I worked for a number of years at a sales company that also had a PR company within its offices. I was amazed with this PR company at the high profile clients it managed to attract, even managing to get a signed photograph from a well known model.

Yorkshire certainly seems to be a hive of activity when it comes to both PR and SEO. Take for example Patrick at Blogstorm, I never realised he was Yorkshire based until I went to the Harrogate SEO event a few months back.

My own knowledge of PR is pretty much based on online experiences, so for example if I am distributing a press release I would seek the services of a reputable online distribution service rather than think of say a newspaper. It only occurred to me this morning though that some companies actually take the reverse approach, ie offline distribution then online.

Someone once told me, remember what makes the news offline soon becomes an online event and if you can be the first to publicise the news all the better. PR Yorkshire it seems is thriving and next time I need a good distribution channel I will certainly be following up leads in the Yorkshire region.  No longer is Yorkshire known only for its puddings its known for PR too!

SEO Contract Work

DAN HORTON SEO CONTRACTS 01765 698638

I am now looking at gaining some SEO contract work to build up my client base and of course act as a regular source of monthly income. I have worked out that with a few clients I can offer immediate SEO advice on a contract basis.

My initial thoughts are to provide SEO Contracts on a 6 month basis, this will enable me to show the client a steady growth in high quality website visitors and a good return on investment. With any website I feel that significant improvements will not happen overnight and its important to stress this when I take on forthcoming seo contracts.

So, if you are in the process of trying to attract more online visitors to your website and need immediate seo advice please get in touch today.  danhortonseo@gmail.com

I can only take on a few “seo contracts” initially as this will take up the majority of my time as an seo consultant working from home.

Leeds SEO Services

by Dan Horton SEO on June 9, 2009

in SEO Consultant, Uncategorized

Fortunately, I am keeping myself pretty organised working from home and seem to be getting up earlier each day, much to the surprise of those around me. I have been deciding what my key areas of work will be and trying to come up with a list of SEO services that I will offer from home, so here goes:

  • SEO Consulting- the key area of my business. This will be conducted on by the hour basis, allowing me to take on a few SEO contracts for clients, yet giving each a good portion of my time. Through this service I aim to share my experience of how to get websites to rank effectively within the search engines and also provide seo strategies for the future of a web site’s success. Encompassed within the service will be website analytics, website usability and indexation. Most importantly here will be advice on increasing conversion rates. I also think here I need to act as a vital point of contact for people, in the event there are pressing issues I need to make sure they are resolved immediately.
  • Search Engine Optimisation ( This speaks for itself)
  • Website Audits/ Appraisals - This service will be a thorough website overview and be done on a cost per report basis.
  • Content Writing this service will extend to press releases and article distribution, essentially “SEO Copy”
  • Viral Marketing & Social Networking services.
  • SEO solutions for agencies- The plan here is to provide SEO services for existing website marketing agencies on a contract basis. Here I can help with any SEO client side work meaning that the agency can “outsource” the work to me at any time.
  • SEO training services, this could be for existing agencies or those who own a website but need seo guidance and want to implement SEO changes for themselves.

Please get in touch, if you need any of the above SEO Services. danhortonseo@gmail.com

I’m wondering just how Google treats different spellings and indeed if its possible to generate a website purely on localised spellings or miss spellings and see just how that would climb in the search results. It’s easy to see just how misspellings are littered across the Internet and just how effective a defined strategy to target them with your primary keywords could be.

Business Credit Cards

by Dan Horton SEO on May 26, 2009

in Business Credit Cards

The most recent US reform due to the economic downturn leaves many small business owners in a difficult situation especially when it comes to credit cards. Such reforms have already hit the UK economy and many will be asking just what is the best business credit card to get ?

By far the best business credit card is that the offers a low interest rate. Why? Well apart from the obvious fact that high interest cards simply cost more usually those people who have high interest cards also have a poorer credit rating. Hmmm. This seems like an ever decreasing circle.

The best way forward with a high interest business credit card is to purchase smaller items which you can easily pay off and in the process build up a good credit rating. Keep in mind also that credit card companies add a certain amount of “debt” to your card each month.

Another solution is to apply for a business credit card aith 0% apr for 6months and do a balance transfer and make sure you make as many high payments towards paying off that card as possible in those first 6 months. Hopefully by then your credit score will have picked up too and you can then apply for another LOW INTREST business credit card.

SEO Client Satisfaction Counts

by Dan Horton SEO on May 26, 2009

in SEO Clients

It’s all very well being good at SEO, but if your seo client is not certain about exactly what you have been working on then there could be trouble ahead. This is a business headache that most of us can avoid by simply keeping the client in the loop on any business related developments and indeed forwarding a list of SEO tasks achieved within a month.

This sounds easy enough, but I can say it is all too easy sometimes to get wrapped up in client rankings and great serp achievements that you forget to fill out that all important seo task list and email it to the client. The importance then of an SEO client coordinator should not be overlooked.

At the end of the day if you do overlook such important client communication the only person that will know and indeed be pleased about your efforts is yourself, so for goodness sake start filling in that time sheet and pronto.

Personally, I try to make a list of the tasks I am going to complete before the day starts and stick to it otherwise I get distracted very easily and end up with what seems like an impossible mountain to climb.

SEO Continues to thrive in Economic Downturn

by Dan Horton SEO on May 26, 2009

in Uncategorized

The news is still full of companies that are closing or others that are simply being bought out by larger companies simply because they cannot cope with the present economic climate. Some would think with the state of the economy that the SEO role would also slow too, but personally I think this is not the case.

Perhaps now more than ever company’s realise just how important the SEO role is to their future success and online growth. Many of the industries I have worked on in recent months have witnessed exponential growth that could never be considered indicative of an economic downturn.

Now has to be the time to invest in online marketing to make certain that any online business is realising its full potential.

Windows 7 Microsoft.NET Ver 2 Administrator Rights

by Dan Horton SEO on May 19, 2009

in Windows 7

I’ve had a look in recent days at Windows 7 and have to say I love it so far. Apart from one little niggle. The niggle seems to be inherent from Vista, and I can’t seem to see how to change it. I’m trying to set a user account with administrative privileges under Microsoft.Net. (version2) When I look to areas like IIS it seems there is already privileges set, but can I change these…No.

The reason for this is that I have some software that requires administrative privileges under the version 2 Microsoft.Net framework. Answers would be gratefully received.

My questions are this…Why would Vista and Windows 7 have such an admin account built in with defaults set, I could understand this for numpties who can’t be trusted to run their own pc, but making these privileges so difficult to change for software to perform a simple function is unrealistic by any standards.

I have already tried the recommended route of re-installing the .NET framework and indeed running Windows 7 in safe mode to alter the privileges…hmmm

Apart from this I have to say Windows 7 appears much more stable and Im running 64bit which so far seems much more responsive.
